Dumbleton disappointment

There were to be no early celebrations to commemorate the 40th anniversary year of winning the National Village KO as Cookley fell at the first hurdle in this year’s competition at Gloucestershire Premier League side Dumbleton.
After putting the home side into bat Cookley’s hopes were high when they took three early wickets but some late hitting boosted Dumbleton and their 40-over score of 214 looked competitive.
A promising start led by skipper Paul Thomas gave Cookley some encouragement but the visitors were never quite up with the asking rate and a rejigged batting order owing to Jaimen Rudd’s discolated finger didn’t help matters either. A late flurry gave the total of 157 some respectability but left Cookley still 58 runs short of their target and left them reflecting on what might have been.
