Cookley 1sts are unbeaten after their first three league games of the 2021 season and currently stand at second place in Division Two of the Worcestershire County League.
In their most recent game they romped to a convincing nine-wicket win at Netherton in a game that was over in just two hours 20 minutes.
The home side were routed for just 51 thanks mainly to a devastating five-wicket spell by Adam Meacham and captain Jamie Brighton then lost no time in knocking off the runs with 44 out of the 52 target.
The victory follows their a dramatic two-run win in their opening game away to Bromsgrove Seconds and picking up a winning draw in another nail-biting finish at home to Barnt Green Seconds, the visitors’ last pair at the wicket when time was called with 11 runs still needed for victory. This week they face a tough task at home to league leaders Bredon.
In Division Seven the Second team were soundly beaten by Ombersley 3rds who racked up a score of 278-3 thanks in the main to Ashey Damm’s unbeaten double century. In reply Cookley struggled to reach 164, suffering a 114-run defeat. The Seconds had picked up their first victory the previous week when they convincingly overcame Bromsgrove 4ths by six wickets following defeat in the opening game of the season at the hands of Cleobury Mortimer.
